Groundwater View

Visualization and animation package of groundwater processes.

Groundwater processes are not directly visible to the groundwater user, investigator or manager, yet very important to understand in order to optimally utilize and protect the groundwater resources. In order to improve the understanding of fundamental subsurface processes, this interactive and user-friendly visual tool is developed, which explains a number of groundwater processes through animations of computer simulated results. The animations include illustrations of: the water balance concept, interactions between surface water and groundwater, spatial and temporal variation of groundwater recharge, time scale for observing effects of changed land use and artificial recharge on the natural groundwater recharge and groundwater table, interference of pumping wells, effect of pumping on the groundwater table for confined and unconfined conditions and solute transport in subsurface systems.

Groundwater View is developed as part of the project: Groundwater Governance in Asia: Capacity Building through Action Research in the Indo-Gangetic (IGB) and Yellow River (YRB) Basins. It is meant as a tool for capacity building in the international training and research program: Groundwater Governance in Theory and Practice.
