Update on Training Program: ‘Groundwater Governance in Theory and Practice’

The training program commences on October 10, 2006. An inaugural session presided by dignified representatives from the Indian Central Groundwater Board, as well as representatives from the CPWF, GGA and IIT, Roorkee will kick-off the 5-week intensive training course.  The first week of the 5-week program will take place at The Department of Water Resources Development and Management (DWRDM), Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Uttar Pradesh, India. The second and third week will take place in Dehradun, Uttaranchal, at Centre for Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute (CSWCRTI) and Indian Institute for Remote Sensing (IIRS), respectively. The fourth week will be hosted by the College of Agricultural Engineering (CAE), Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab, India and for the fifth week, the participants will return to IIT, Roorkee.  For a detailed program of the Course, click here.

The research phase of the fellows following the five week class-room course is being designed and prepared for the fellows to enter smoothly into a practical and realistic program of four weeks research (senior fellows) and 16 weeks action research for junior and media fellows.

The competition on best mascot and slogan closed on May 31, 2006 and the award winner announced. The winner will be honored and awarded at the opening session of the fifth week of the course, which is planned to be a high level conference style workshop involving the senior fellows of the course and several national and international experts on groundwater and groundwater management.  In line with the best mascot and slogan selected, a new logo has been developmed for the GGA Project. It looks as follows:

 

Ph.D. Scholarship

A Ph.D. scholarship within the GGA on 'Integrating remove sensing and hydrological modeling for groundwater resources assessment and sustianable use in the North China Plains,' in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen, is announced.  For a project description, click here.  The deadline for applications is November 1, 2006.
